We close our fairytale month with Fairytales of The Efteling. The book has the original illustrations by Anton Pieck, artist, painter, etcher and graphic designer. The Fairytale Forest in De Efteling - designed by Anton Pieck - attracts millions of children from all over the world to the Netherlands.
Looking at Anton Pieck's work you can see why, it is very special! The atmospheric drawings of the little houses, palaces, village squares and mushrooms (the toadstools in The Efteling make music) have come to life. It's a magical world with princesses, knights, dragons and gnomes that children can't get enough of.
The original Fairytales of the Efteling book was edited by Martine Bijl, who wrote two of the stories herself. This edition can only be found second-hand, but you can buy the beautiful, newly published Sprookjes van de Efteling book everywhere, still with illustrations by Anton Pieck.
There are even two more parts available, Meer sprookjes van de Efteling (More Fairytales of The Efteling) and En ze leven nog lang en gelukkig (And they live happily ever after). The books are beautiful, to be treasured for life! (But only in Dutch!)
