Tornado promo

A fun physics experiment is to create a mini-tornado in a bottle of water. With stuff you (almost) always have in your cupboard it is soon ready. The glitter is to make the tornado more visible. For the same reason we have put black cardboard behind the bottle, for the photo.

Fill the bottle to 3/4 with water and add 2-3 drops of dish washing liquid.

Pour in some glitter powder, we used silver and blue.

Hold the bottle upside down in your hand and turn it around quickly.

Make small circular movements with the bottle but try to keep your hand as still as possible and let the water turn. This needs a little pratice!

You have to repeat it several times before the tornado will form. Here you see the beginning.

Here you see the vortex (that's wat the whirl is called which is a tornado basically). The girls think it's so cool!
