What a fun museum

Rijks Museum van Oudheden
Info, Vacation and Weekend Trips, Winter, and informative and educational

The Rijks Museum of Antiquities in Leiden is one of The Netherlands's finest museums. The permanent exhibition Egypt, exhibited in new rooms, is breathtakingly beautiful. A favorite masterpiece in this collection must be the image of Maya and Merit, a double image and so detailed, very special. We always go see statuette of a hippopotamus as well, it's so cute.

The permanent exhibition Classical World, including the Greeks, Etruscans and Romans, also has many masterpieces in the collection, such as the moving Roman funerary monument for a girl and the magnificent Greek amphora with athletes. These collections are world famous.

During the Christmas vacation there's a special Dummie the Mummy detective route for children, and/or you can go to an Egyptian workshop in the temple hall. There you can build pyramids of Lego, make an Egyptian crown or queens collar and have their picture taken dressed as a Pharaoh.

If you can't go to the museum (yet) you can play or download cool colouring pictures, online games, crafting, puzzles & challenges on the museum's website. There is help with school assignments too, super interresting! check it out here

Also very special! At the museum 8-12 year-olds can participate in the Museum Youth University, where lectures are given about the antiquity, from February until May 2017. You can sign up for it now!

3 radiant stars for the extraordinary Rijksmuseum van Oudheden in Leiden!
