Today we are reading a very special book: The amazing discoveries of Ibn Sina. He lived thousands of years ago in Persia. The book was written by Lebanese children's author Fatima Sharafeddine. The book is not translated into Dutch, so we read it aloud.
We read how a Persian boy of 10 years old loved to read and could remember everything he read. He was taught by the best scientists and philosophers his father could find. But medical science interested him most and when he was 16 he finished his medical studies.
During his life he worked as a doctor and made many medical discoveries. But he also wrote hundreds of books, about medicine but also about all kinds of subjects. Besides the medical science, he was very interested in mathematics, chemistry, architecture, philosophy, music, education and meteorology. What is most remarkable about his scientific - medical - discoveries is that many are still in use today.
The beautiful, colourful illustrations are by Iraqi Intelaq Mohammad Ali, children's book illustrator and graphic designer. They give the book the rich, Persian look through the use of graphic patterns, gold and warm colors.
3 gold glowing stars for The Amazing Discoveries of IBN SINA, from the readers and the monsters!
