The most important possesion of every human being is freedom, we always stop and think about it in May. Our picture book of this week is called FREE! and it is a very special book. This book is translated in almost every language of the world!

The book was published by Lemniscaat in collaboration with Amnesty International UK because 60 years ago all countries of the world signed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, with which they then promised to uphold these human rights without any reservation.

Every right is beautifully illustrated in this book. 30 different artists from all over the word make them clearly visible in different styles. In the back of the book, all thirty human rights are written down chronologically, so that you can read them in their entirety.

The proceeds from the copyright of this book are for the benefit of Amnesty International. That Amnesty desperately needs this money should be clear, they are doing their utmost to supervise the compliance with Human Rights worldwide.

It is painful that this is still badly needed, even though all countries have signed this declaration. If we look at the world, sadly the countries that violate these rights are in the majority.

The young snazzie readers think this is a beautiful and very important book. Important, because every they see children in war zones or in horrible camps on the Jeugdjournaal. There are children in the class room who had to flee to the Netherlands because of hunger and violence.

Their parents sometimes do not get a residence permit so they have to go back, to sometimes unsafe areas. That is why human rights are so important and even if they are often forgotten, we must respect them, always.

Three big, powerful shining stars for We are all born free and for Amnesty International!
