War Child celebrated its 15th anniversary in October 2010 and a lot has been achieved in those 15 years. For the people who do not know what the War Child organization does (if those people exist), War Child is committed to helping children who live in war zones, all over the world.
Unfortunately, the goal that War Child had set itself has not yet been achieved. The goal still is: No child in war and then we can make the organization redundant. Now we are 10 years later and very sadly it does not look like this goal can be achieved any time soon.
War Child uses all kinds of creative methods in education, sports and games. In this way they help children to process their experiences and make the best of their lives. These methods help with the emotional problems and excessive stress these children live under. At least it brings them pleasure, normalcy and regularity (as far as that is possible in a war situation), something else to focus on and forget all fear and misery for a while.
Writer Evelien Pullens tells the true stories of children from 6 countries where there is war. Together with the illustrators Ivan & Ilia it has become a beautiful book. The stories are moving but also give hope because children have so much resilience that even in these extreme circumstances they remain hopeful and want to make the best of their lives.
Everyone, from publisher to printer and everything in between who has contributed to this book, has done so free of charge or at expense and the net proceeds from the sale go in full to War Child. Nice to be able to support the campaign with the purchase of a book!
