Today we started reading Wachten op Apollo (Waiting for Apollo), written in 2001. This is a book by the Frisian author Lida Dijkstra. She has been writing children's books for young and older children since 1992 and they are all equally brilliant. She writes in Dutch and also in Frisian. The story is a retelling of 6 myths from Ovid's Metamorphoses.
The boek reads really easy and is written with humor. In (very) short: On Oracle Day there is a very long queu in front of the temple of Delphi. Everyone is waiting to consult the oracle. Suddenly a crow lands on a sheperd boy's head who's waiting in line and she can talk ...
In the back of the book you will find an glossary with who is who and what in the book. Very nice and certainly not superfluous, because the ancient Greeks had quite a few gods!
