What a disappointment!

our tomatoes were struck down by storm
Kitchen Garden, Info, and Harvesting

Growing tomatoes is not just fun. To get to a good harvest you have to rely on things you can't control, like the weather for instance.

The storm over Holland on 30&31 of August left a lot a lot of people with costly damage.

Compared to that our damage was tiny but still very disappointing!

By mid-March of this year we started the seeding of cherry tomatoes. All seeds and supplies were purchased and then we could start with the seeding.

It went really well and the tomatoes growed like...cabbage. We pampered them with sunlight and water in their little greenhouse trays, so much fun and saw them grow!

Then we repotted them and put them behind the window and agian grew the tomatoes exemplary. Finally, in mid-May, the tomatoes could go outside. We transplanted them for the last time, now in the garden.

Soon the plants needed support, we used bamboo sticks.

When little yellow flowers appeared, we knew there'll be tomatoes

Yes!! Beautiful little tomatoes grew on our plants.

But on the 30th of August a storm with rain and hail raged over Holland.

When we got up in the morning we immediately missed the plants in the window. They all lay flat against the ground and everywhere in the garden were loose tomatoes scattered.
That morning we left anything as it was, the weather being still bad and we were very disappointed.

But by mid-morning we couldn't leave it and saved what we could. All the little tomatoes were picked up, we clipped the plants where needed and re-bound them to the bamboo sticks.

The plants looked horrible but all we could do now was wait and see.

The loose tomatoes had to wait for the sun to reappear.

After a day of sunlight we were glad they started to colour.

Today we have not as many plants left as before but they start to look much better and...the new tomatoes are still growing.

The loose tomatoes are doing very good as well. So luckily we do have some harvest, just not as much as we expected.
