We read a beautiful picture book to the little monsters and it is called What is a river? The story is told (as she says herself) by Monika Vaicenaviciene. and she also made the beautiful illustrationsto go with it. The story is about a grandmother and a granddaughter who have an important conversation together.
The girl asks What is a river grandma? But you cannot answer this short question briefly, there is a lot to say about what a river is. And that's what the grandmother does and so the girl - and we also - hear what a river is and does and how important this is for all of us.
The grandmother uses her embroidery to explain what a river does. For the earth, the air, for animals in and on the water and for people. A very beautiful, original and special story! Unfortunately the book is currently sold out.
Hopefully it will be reprinted soon so that many children can read or hear this story. Until then you can try it at the library. Here in Rotterdam you can find the book in abundance there.
3 cheerful, bright twinkling stars for What is a river? from our little listeners, the by-themself-readers and the out-loud readers!
