Today we make our own beautiful diya's (read Binny's Diwali, if you want to know what diyas are)) and we make them from zout dough. Then the little ones can also join in the fun, because (salt) bread dough can't hurt them at all. You usually already have the stuff at home and the mixer kneads the most ;)) That's great!
How to make bread dough Diyas
Put the flour in a big bowl.
Add the salt and water.
Mix in the oil too.
Knead briefly by hand.
Make oieces of 100g each.
Roll into a ball and flatten.
Press in a hole, using your thumb.
Let it end in a point.
Fit the light in the diya.
Preheat the oven to 100°C.
Bake the diya's hard in 3 hours.
Let the diyas cool completely on a wire rack, in the meantime we put out the paint, brushes, beads and glue
Paint the diya's in a pretty colour.
Paint the inside gold.
Decorate the edge of the diya's.
Let the paint dry completely.
Stick beads on the diyas.
We make them all different.
Allow the glue to dry well.
Place the lights in the diyas.
We place the biscuits all around, beautiful!
Happy Diwali to all!
