What do you need?
5 twigs
woolen or cotton thread
scissors
Today we weave the sun, we cut branches in the garden and take the colored cotton. This 'weaving' can also be done with 5 - 6 year olds and they really enjoy doing it. When the suns are ready we hang them in front of the window, they look very nice!
How to make the sun
Cut twigs in the garden or search outside on the ground..
Choose twigs of approximately the same lenght.
Tie a red thread firmly around the 2 bottom twigs.
Tie the two twigs crosswise tightly together..
Tie the other 2 crosswise on top of the 2.
Wind the thread thickly and cut it off.
Tie on the next colour.
Now you start to weave by threading the thread around, under and over the twigs
Tie orange to the red thread and start weaving egg yellow.
Tie on egg yellow, weave and then weave orange again.
Go on with lemon yellow and then orange again.
Weave on with egg yellow and tie on lemon yellow.
The suns are not perfectly round because of the tightening of threads, but the monsters find them beautiful and that's what matters to us!
End with lemon and tie the end thread to the back of the sun.
Now you can hang your sun(n) in the window.
