Shopping list for four persons
400g marinated tofu strips
30 ml olive oil (2 tablespoons)
400g brown rice
1 vegetable stock cube
2 cloves of garlic
400g Chinese stir fry veg
1 teaspoon mild curry powder
1/2 teaspoon five spice
freshly ground black pepper
3 tablespoons soy sauce
4 free range organic eggs
Today we have a guest chef at snazzie, her name is Ismenia and she will cook a tasty and healthy vegetarian dish for us.
Brown rice is nutritious and healthy, you can buy minute rice or the ordinary kind at the toko. For kids or inexperieced cooks the minute rice is much easier to prepare.
The stir fry vegetables can you buy already sliced or let the kids slice it with a plastic knife. The Chinese vegetabels contain white cabbage, leek, bell pepper, green beans and bean sprouts.
The tofu you can buy marinated or do it yourself. Place 5 tablespoons of soy sauce in a bowl, stir in half a teaspoon 5 spice, a tablespoon oystersauce and a crushed garlic clove. Let the tofu marinate in it for 10 minutes.
How to make whole grain rice with tofu
Bring a big pan of water with the 2 cubes to the boil.
Peel the two garlic cloves and slice them fine.
Add the sliced garlic to the water.
Add the rice to boiling water then stir it with a wooden fork.
When the water boils again turn the heat low.
Let the rice cook softly for 8 minutes then drain it.
Close the pan by putting on the lid, let the rice rest for 5 minutes.
Now we start with stir frying
Place the olive oil into the pan and wait for the oil to steam.
Add the tofu strips and fry them for 5 app. minutes.
Add the stir fry veg, stir it in and fry it 5 minutes.
When the cabbage colours a little the veg is cooked al dente.
Now ad the spices and stir them in.
Add the rice and stir fry it for 3 minutes.
Now taste if the stir fry is seasoned enough.
Because there is no salt added to the dish you can give some soy sauce on the side and the fried egg is optional. Enjoy!
