What do you need to make the shepherds?
2 cone figures
the pattern
wool felt, in various colours
pair of scissors
pins
matching colors of yarn
needle
knitting cotton
hobby glue
The nativity scene is not complete without the shepherds, so we make those too. It's a fun job, we love sewing and we make a father and son. They have different colours of clothing, a different hair colour but you need just 1 pattern.
How to make the shepherds
Downlaod and print the pattern, then cut it out
Pin the pattern parts onto the felt and cut them out.
Cut out the undergarments and cloaks for both dolls.
Pin the undergarments on the dolls.
Sew the garments closed with tiny overcasting stitches.
Tie off the thread firmly.
Cut out both the hoods.
Pin the back of the hood closed.
Sew the hood closed with tiny little backstiches.
Turn the hoods inside out.
Sew the cloak at the top with 3 tiny stitches on top of each other.
Wrap a cotton thread around your fingers and tie off.
Cut the hair into shape.
Stick the 'hair' on the dolls heads.
Put on the hoods and sew them all around.
To finish we sew the hands on the dolls.
Give one of the shepherds a twig in his hand, a shepherds staff.
Later this week we will also make the sheep, because: no shepherds without ... you know!
