For the celebration of St. Michael's we are making small dragons out of felt. These dragons are finger puppets, with which you can perform a whole theater show or you can just play with them. These dragons can also breathe fire, so watch out and be careful! :)))
How to make our fire breathing dragons
Pin the parts of the pattern onto the felt.
Cut out the parts and remove the pattern.
Pin the 2 parts of the dragon's body on top of each other.
Cut a long, straight strip of felt using the pinking shears.
Insert a long thread into the needle, double it over and tie a knot at the bottom, then you start to sew with a double thread for firmness
Pin the strip between the 2 parts of the body.
Sew with tiny running stitches from chin to tail.
Sew the the dragon closed in the same way
BUT DO MIND! Leave the dragon's belly open!
Pin the wings onto the felt.
Cut out and pin them together.
Sew the wings together.
Pin and sew them on your dragon.
- Fill the head and the tail of the dragon with a little woolen stuffing
- Make sure there is still room for a little finger in the doll!
- If you like, you can also make another dragon, in exactly the same way
TIP: On dragon 2 we first attach the wings to the body, that sews a bit easier ;)
We choose different colours.
When the dragons are ready cut out eyes.
Cut flames from red, orange, yellow felt.
Sew or glue the dragon's eyes or ears on it's head
and glue the fire onto the sticks.
Now the little dragons can breathe fire!
Next week we make more fingerpuppets, then we make knights and a princess
