What do you need?
2 sheets of black photo cardboard
a pencil and a ruler
a utility knife
a cutting mat
kite paper, white, purple and lilac
a glue stick
piece of thick cardboard
hobby glue
battery operated lights
Today we are making a Minecraft lantern that holds souls. BRRR! It's a favorite item of our little Minecraft gamer. We light it with a string of small lights, on batteries. In the original version, the colours of the lantern are turquoise and white. We use Puk's favorite colour, Purple!
You can find a good spot for the lantern in your room. Yes, Puk says, but it is for Martinmas. On November 11th the lantern will be taken outside, to take part in the Martinmas lantern parade.
How to make the Minecraft lantern
Download and print the template
Cut out a piece of thick cardboard for the bottom, for firmness
Cut out the cardboard as well as the windows.
Tear out the sheets of kite paper and check if they fit.
Stick the kite paper on the inside of the windows.
Allow the glue to dry thoroughly.
Meanwhile cut squares of kite paper.
Stick on the outside of the windows.
Leave 4 cubes in the middle empty.
Let the glue dry first.
Score and fold the glueing strips.
Spread glue on the glueing strips.
Stick the cube together keeping the flap on the bottem, press the glued stips firmly on and let the glue dry well again
Spread glue on the black square.
Press the square on the glue strips.
Turn the cube and press the strips firmly on.
Set the cube aside and let the glue dry completely again, the drying of the glue determines how neat your craft will look later on
Meanwhile we craft the top of the lantern, a square 'ring'
Trace the template on cardboard and cut out.
Score the glue strips and fold them.
Fold the box together.
Spread glue on the strips and stick them on.
Let the glue dry with paperclips on the corners.
Stick the box on top of the cube and let the glue dry..
Trace the last part of the lantern on black cardboard.
Cut out the square ring neatly.
Score all the glue strips.
Stick the ring together.
Stick the square ring on top of the lantern and... you already know it!
ALLOW THE GLUE TO DRY WELL! ><
Switch the lights on when it's dark.
