Shopping list
180 ml of milk
60g butter (soft)
60 grams of fine sugar
1 organic egg (room temperature)
390 grams of bread flour
1/2 teaspoon of salt
7g active dried yeast
Stuffing
45g soft butter
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon organic orange zest
Frosting
125g icing sugar
80 grams of cream cheese
1 - 2 tablespoons of orange juice
drops of orange food colouring
For King's Day we bake sweet orange rolls. Delicious as a hot breakfast on your day off, but then you have to get up early, because the rolls have to rise for an hour. But if you are an early bird, this is the recipe for you. If not, bake the rolls a day in advance and warm them up in the oven. (Without the icing, of course!)
How to make sweet orange rolls
Heat the milk until it is lukewarm..
Place all ingredients except the flour in the mixer.
Sift the flour into the mixer bowl.
Mix until all is combined into a rough dough.
Knead the dough by hand in approximately 3-4 minutes smooth
Roll the dough into a flattened ball.
Cover and let it rest for 5 minutes.
Flatten the dough.
Roll the dough to a 0.5cm thickness.
Brush the dough with the butter then sprinkle with zest and sugar.
Roll the dough away from you, but not too stif.
Cut the roll into about 16 approximately equal pieces.
Grease a 22cm springform tin with butter and sprinkle it with flour
Place the rolls in the tin.
Cover the rolls with waxed paper.
Allow to rise for 1 hour in a warm place.
Preheat the oven to 175°C and bake the rolls in 20-25 minutes golden and cooked through
Let cool for 3-4 minutes.
Meanwhile make the frosting.
Put the ingredients in the mixer.
Mix until the frotsting is smooth.
Add the food colouring.
Stir it into the frosting.
Spoon the frosting into a piping bag.
Pipe stripes of orange frosting over the rolls.
These sweet orange rolls are delicious!
