We found this really funny book at the library to practice reading at home, and it is called Agent and Boef (Cop and Crook). This book is written some years ago by Tjibbe Veldkamp, a well-known children's author at snazzie's. The cover immediately appeals to the little monsters; they're very curious about the story! Great, because then we don't have to encourage them first, and the monsters don't have to open the book with a sigh and a groan.
The story starts off really funny: Crook sits happily in jail, and the cop is taking care of the housework; he even wears an apron. But Crook isn't called Crook for nothing! He's always up to mischievous things, and it always makes him laugh the loudest. Cop gets a headache from Crook's tricks, he is the one having to run after him, even though he still has so much ironing to do.
But Cop isn't a cop for nothing; immediately he gives chase! Meanwhile, Boef is causing chaos all over town. Everything is sticky because Boef has stolen a jar of glue from the police station. All the mail is stuck together in a string, and everything in the schoolyard is stuck together too! But then Cop comes up with a clever plan, now we just have to quickly read on, to see if his plan works.
The fantastic illustrations in Agent and Boef (Cop and Crook) were created by renowned Dutch cartoonist Kees de Boer. His contribution to this book is indispensable, he truly brings the hilarious adventures of these two characters to life. The back of the book says "slapstick," and that's what it is: slapstick in writing for children. Brilliant!
