Iris Volant has written a wonderful picture book Boats Fast and Slow. She made a series of informative books of which one this is a part. The boats go back in time to the ancient Greeks, the Egyptians and the Chinese. With in between famous boats from history such as the Beagle and the Titanic amongst others, all the way up to the gigantic cruise ships of today.
Jarom Vogel is the brilliant illustrator of this book. The style of his illustrations is really contemporary, just like his use of colours. At the same time some of his ships remind us very much of the retro Holland America Line posters.
Our mini monsters find this book very interesting, the colourful illustrations are very appealing. In Rotterdam we are familiar with all kinds of ships but especially for those who do not live in a port area, there is a lot to discover in this book!
