What can we harvest now?
The Red Currants are gone already, the birds took care of those!
The raspberries just start to appear, so we have to wait for those
But what do we have to harvest, then?
Blackberries!

We love to shop at Ekoplaza—local and organic—we love it. Last year, they had a fun promotion that the little monsters were immediately up for: collecting stamps for cutting plants. The stamp card filled up quickly; you only had to collect 6 stamps, which is great for little savers!
So off we went, to pick out a cutting plant (for €2.98) at our supermarket. Once there, there was a debate first. After all, we already have raspberries; they have been doing great for years! The grapes don't produce any fruit, and the blueberries don't do well at all in our garden. So, it was unanymous, the blackberry was going to be our plant!

We put our small new little plant next to the blackberry plant we bought last year. That one is still tiny, and it produced exactly two blackberries last autumn. But together, we can certainly see them standing there. :))
Our new plant wastes no time; it shoots up while you are watching. After a month, the most beautiful flowers are already appearing. What an asset to our garden, it is! As soon as the flowers start to wilt, we already see blackberries appearing.

Every day we see more green blackberries appear on the branches, but as we tell our little monsters also, now we have to be very patient. You usually pick blackberries towards autumn, say late August, early September, if you're lucky.
So when the blackberries already turn red in June, we immediately get comments: "It's not August at all yet, and the blackberries are ripening already." We are surprised by that, but unfortunately for the little monsters, the blackberries have to turn almost black before they are ready to be picked.

The blackberries are being closely monitored; every day we check on them! And we can safely say: They are doing very well! For the first blackberries are already turning a beautiful dark color, alsmost black. We just have to wait a little longer for then they detach easily from the stem.
And now take a look at the stems, our first blackberries have been picked! We picked a bowl full of blackberries. Now we can use them in our baking, on our pancakes (July 11) and what not. The little monsters are very happy, the blackberries are just to beautiful to eat!
Happy Summer to all!
