150g sirloin steak
1 tsp olive oil, for frying
salt and freshly ground black pepper
½ onion, thinly sliced
4 button mushrooms, thinly sliced
25g semi-soft cheese (port salut or taleggio)
2 panini roll, lightly toasted
a handful lettuce
2 cocktail vine tomatoes
(hot) chili sauce or tomato ketchup
Today a decadent lunch sandwich, delicious with meat and cheese. We use bake-off rolls, which we flatten after baking and toast in the toaster. With fresh vegetables, summer lettuce and tomato, it becomes a hearty lunch!
How to make a cheese steak sandwich
Rub the steak with olive oil.
Season the steak with sea salt and pepper.
Fry the steak 3 minutes on each side.
Bake the rolls.
Wash and tear the lettuce.
Cut the onion thinly.
Fry the onions for a minute.
- If you want the sirloin steak rare, fry it for 2 minutes on each side, for well done 4 minutes
- Remove the steak from the pan and let it rest for a while but keep it warm in foil
Slice the mushrooms thinly.
Fry the mushrooms golden brown.
Toast the rolls.
Cut the cheese into slices.
Unwrap the steak.
Cut it into thin slices.
Dress the rolls with salad leaves, steak and fried onions.
Place mushrooms and cheese on top and serve with tomatoes & sauce.
