Today we read one of our favorite Roald Dahl (1916-1990) books: Danny the World Champion. The book might be less well known than Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Mathilda or The Witches (also favorite Roald Dahl books here) .but no less beautiful and funny, just in a different way.
Roald Dahl's regular illustrator Sir Quentin Blake (1932) also illustrated Danny the World Champion, in his own brilliant way. His drawings give so much atmosphere to the story, you can see the old caravan and nature in front of you. But also the togetherness of Danny and his father. The drawn five-year-old Danny is super cute!
Danny 5 years old
The old gypsy caravan
Brigadier Beaver
Danny and his Father
The story of Danny is especially beautiful because Danny and his marvellous father share a deep love for nature and also the desire for exciting adventures in their already unusual life. Those adventures occur when they take on the rich snob and nasty man Victor Hazel!
