We're a bit late with this at the start of 2026, but we still had a pile of overdue reading lying around, finally today is the day: we've finished The Wonderteller by Dutch author Lida Dijkstra. How sad and yet so wonderful at the same time, what a beautiful book! Our little monsters are very impressed by the story.
Looking at the book, you can immediately see that they're not the only ones! This book was awarded a Golden and a Silver Stylus and the Thea Beckman Prize in 2025. As if that weren't honorable enough, every serious reviewer (including NRC and Trouw) has sung its praises, and rightly so, in our opinion.
The story follows the travels of Marco Polo, and it's adventurous and exciting. Djenné Fila's beautiful artwork adds colour and brings the story to life. A wonderful book that will be talked about for ages!
