130g all-purpose flour
40g fine sugar
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
40g soft butter
1 free range organic egg, medium
1 tablespoon milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
50g brown sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla sugar
sunflower oil, for frying

Here is how you make these little vanilla stars
Put flour and sugar in a big bowl and add baking powder.
Also add a quarter of a teaspoon salt.
Stir all until combined then add the butter and egg.
Finally add the milk and the vanilla extract.
Now knead the dough but do not overwork it or your stars will taste dry
Knead into a supple dough.
Wrap the dough in cling film.
Put the dough in the fridge for 45 mins.
Sir the 2 sugars together.
Heat the frying pan to 175°C
Sprinkle flour on your workspace.
Cut out 1cm thick stars.
You get 18 - 20 stars from the dough.
Bake the stars light brown in 1 - 2 minutes.
Drain the stars briefly on kitchenpaper.
Quickly coat the stars in sugar and allow them to cool slightly
Fresh and warm the little vanilla stars taste best!
