The Sea Creatures

live in a shell

June 17, 2026 Painting Summer Animal Crafts Claying

What do you need?
air-drying clay
a piece of baking paper
various colours acrylic paint
paint brushes
large shells
Bison glue
varnish, for clay
a small paint brush

Using a few large shells from our collection, we are making three cute sea creatures. The little monsters each choose an animal themselves. They are going to make a sea snail, a small octopus, and a little sea turtle. The chosen paint colors are pink, light green, and light blue. The shells we pick out later. It will be very pretty, but the monsters need to have a lot of patience!

Self-drying clay needs to dry for at least three nights. After that, waiting for the paint to dry is no trouble; half an hour, it is bone dry. Then the varnish, and finally the moment has arrived: the shells go onto the animals, hurray!

How you make these sea creatures

Knead the clay until soft.

Shape a snail's body.

An octopuss with 4 legs.

Shape the turtle in loose parts.

Shape the turtle but leave the paws off.

Let the clay dry for 2 nights.

Turn the clay over and dry another night.

When the clay has dried thoroughly you can start painting

Don't forget to paint the edges!

Allow the paint to dry well.

Glue on the loose parts firmly.

Draw eyes on the creatures.

Varnish the creatures only when the glue has dried completely.

Place or glue the shells onto the sea creatures.

Have not the sea creatures turned out cute?

Happy summer to you all!
