All mini-monsters - big and small - love animals and the sea turtle is one of the favorites. Such sweet, funny animals that don't harm anyone yet are at the top of the endangered species list. Animals that have existed at least 100 million years on earth, who were there already in the time of the dinosaurs and who are now almost extinct? They can't understand it and frankly, neither can we! Today we make our own sea turtles, of polymere clay.
How to make a sea turtle
Make the body and head first
Roll 4 clay balls from small to bigger.
Roll a point on the biggest ball.
Roll a point on the second ball and flatten it.
Press the body (ball 1) on the flat point on ball 2.
Now make the front legs
Roll ball 3 into a cylinder.
Cut the cylinder in half.
Roll the 2 parts into two balls.
Roll a point on the small balls.
Bend the clay like a 'banana'.
Flatten it on one side.
Then flatten the legg somewhat.
How to make the hind legs
Roll the smallest ball into a cylinder.
Cut into two halves.
Roll into two small balls.
Roll a point on 1 end.
The paws should look like this.
Flatten the points.
Press all four legs on the turtle.
Finish the turtle's body
Smoothen the underside of the body.
Then the legs are properly fastened.
Flip the turtle over and make 2 holes.
Connect the holes into a heart.
Press lines, using your clay tools or a toothpick, all around the turtle's shield.
How to make the eyes
Roll a thin, black snake.
Roll into 2 tiny balls.
Press the eyes into the head.
How to colour the shield
Scrape some chalk from the pastels.
Brush brown chalk into the shield.
Brush green all over the shield.
Stick the eyelet into the head.
Bake the sea turtle
Read the package instructions first!
Our clay bakes 30 minutes on 110°C.
Now our turtle can be varnished.
But first we paint on some spots.
Allow the paint to dry well
We brush a layer of varnish on the sea turtle.
Tie a string on the dried sea turtle.
Sea turtles can hang on your phone, your keys, your bag or you can put them somewehere in your room.
