Today - on November 4th - we read about Diwali in a cardboard book by the American children's author Hannah Eliot. Every year in October or November Hindus all over the world celebrate Diwali, it is the most important Hindu festival.

Divali is derived from a Sanskrit word: Dipavali, which means: row of lights. As told in the book, this festival celebrates the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, knowledge over ignorance and hope over despair.

Diwali lasts for 5 full days. which are filled with praying and offering to the goddess Lakshmi, tidying up the house and decorating it with lights. But also tasty food and sweets, family visits and gifts. Outside, all houses and buildings are beautifully lit and fireworks are set off. With such a beautiful celebration we read a beautiful book!
