Down the road is a very beautiful picture book with an equally beautiful message. The brilliant illustrations by the American artist E.B. Lewis give a glimpse of the American Countryside and the story is written with much insight into children by the (also) American writer/poet Alice Schertle, who we already know very well from her sweet, funny Little Blue Truck books. Sadly this book has not been translated into the Dutch language.
In this story Hetty offers to go to the store for her parents because they all want eggs for breakfast tomorrow. Hetty thinks she is already big enough to go to the village alone to buy the eggs. Mom gives her a basket to put the eggs in and says walk carefully Hetty, then the eggs will arrive intact.
Read and see for yourself what Hetty experiences along the way and whether the eggs will arrive home intact. A beautiful book, highly recommended!
