In the last few months, we have discovered apple crumble (and by 'we,' we mean our mini's). After apple crumble pies, we have now arrived at an apple crumble dessert. It turns out we do like it ourselves too :)))

First you make the crumbs
Put flour, sugar, and butter cubes in a large bowl.
Rub the butter with your hands into the flour/sugar mixture.
When the flour mixture has turned into coarse crumbs, it is ready.
Place waxed paper on the baking tray.
Preheat the oven to 175°C
Spread the dough crumbs over the baking tray.
Slide the baking tray into the middle of the oven.
Bake the crumbs golden brown in +/- 20 minutes.
Set the baking tray asise for now and let the crumbs cool completely

Set the apple filling aside to cool as well, meanwhile you can make the custard sauce

Mix the custard with the sugar and 3 tablespoons of the milk.
Stir it until the mixture has really smoothend.
Warm the remaining milk in a saucepan.
Add the custard mixture to the warm milk and stir in firmly.
Bring the custard mixture to a boil and keep stirring
Let the custard boil softly for +/- 3 minutes while stirring on and off.
Cover the custard, let cool completely and place in the fridge.
Don't forget to first press a circle of baking paper directly onto the warm custard to prevent a skin from forming!
Toast the almonds until golden, in the oven, for 6 minutes at 175°C

Make a layer of apple, crumble and top it with warm or cold custard.
Now you may choose, almonds or sprinkles.
Scatter roasted almonds (or sprinkles) over the apple-crumble dessert
