We make a Farmer's Barn

Today we make a Farmer's Barn out of wood, so that the farmer can put his animals or his tractor into it. We leave large parts of the barn open, then the mini-monsters can easily reach inside when they are playing with it. We thought it would make a nice Sinterklaas present because we read the Boer Borisstories very often to the kids. Download the blueprint and it will be a fun and easy job.

How to make the Farmer's Barn
Begin with sawing the floor and the walls of the barn.

Print the PDF with the blueprint and extensive instructions.

Measure and draw the walls and the floor on the plywood.

Saw the floor including the 4 cm cut outs.

Cut out the three walls like indicated on the blueprint.

Paint the walls on the outside red.

Paint the walls on the inside yellow ochre.

Paint the floor on the inside also yellow ochre.

How to saw and paint the plinths and the beams.

Saw the quarter round slat to measure.

Saw off 4 plinths, 2 of 4 cm, 1 of 21 cm en 1 of 28 cm.

Paint the plinths yellow ochre.

Saw all square beams to the correct size (on the PDF).

Paint all the beams bright red too.

Later on we glue the beams into the barn like this.

How to make the roof

The size of the roof slats is 4 x 27 mm.

Saw off 12 roof slats of 32 cm.

Sand the sawed off sides smooth.

Paint the slats bright yellow.

Saw 3 pieces of plywood with each 2 support beams, for the roof.

Paint the roof on one side white, the carriers red.

How to assemble the barn

Each time you use glue allow it to dry wel!

Glue the support beams on the walls and then the plinths.

Glue the walls to the floor, as indicated on the PDF.

Glue the support beams for roof on the walls.

Glue 5 slats on each side of the roof and  glue 2 in the middle.

Glue the roof on then glue the support beams in open side of the barn.

Allow the glue to dry well overnight. The next day touch up the paintwork with a small brush, where needed.

Tomorrow we will also make the interior of the barn.
