This year, we're making a lovely candle holder for Diwali. We'll be crafting a beautiful peacock out of clay. You can put in a tea candle and light it on on Diwali, making your peacock even more beautiful. Start nice and early so you can be sure the clay has dried thoroughly and it will take a few days.
How to make a Diwali Peacock lantern from clay
Firstly knead the clay until soft and smooth.
Shape a head and chest from clay.
Set the peacock aside to dry.
Clay a cup in which the light will fit.
Allow the cup to dry as well.
Make 5 tail feathers for the peacock.
Let the tail feathers dry.
Shape 5 smaller tail feathers.
Shape 5 even smaller tail feathers.
Let all feathers dry completely.
Shape 2 wings and let dry too.
- Allow the loose parts of the peacock to dry thoroughly, this process should need at least 2 days and nights!
- Let all the pieces dry separately because this helps the clay dry faster, but also because painting loose pieces will look neater
Sand all the edges neatly smooth with the cardboard nail file.
Paint the peacock, cup and wings blue.
Paint the tail feathers blue, yellow,.green.
Also paint two large tail feathers red.
Allow the paint to dry thoroughly for app. 1 hour and glue the tail parts together
Paint a beak and eyes and decorate the peacock.
Glue all the parts together on cut out cardboard.
Glue the peacock on the cardboard too.
Make the peacock more beautiful with a little gold paint.
Do not forget to glue the crown on the peacock. ;))
Wishing you all a wonderful Diwali!
