An Autumn candle holder

brings coziness

September 09, 2026 Painting Autumn Claying Candle Holder

What do you need?
A piece Das clay
Red and white acrylic paint
Paint brushes
a wooden skewer
Clay varnish
A small brush
A candle

September is a cozy month; it marks the beginning of Autumn. It is already getting dark a bit earlier outside, so we make things cozy inside with the candles lit. For our autumn table, we are making beautiful little candle holders, out of clay. Little mushrooms, of course—it is September, after all!

Here is how to make a little mushroom candle holder

Knead the clay until smooth.

Shape the stem first.

Rol a ball, a bit pointy.

Cut the underside straight.

Cut off the top and push in the sides a bit.

Push in the candle and cut off the sides.

Rub the sides smooth using your index finger.

Let the toadstool dry for 2-3 days.

But do not glue the two parts  together yet.

First paint the loose parts white and red.

Dab small white dots onto the toadstool's hat.

Allow the paint to dry thoroughly!

Varnish the toadstool and let it dry well again.

Finally stick the hat on top of the stem and let the glue dry.

Place your candle in the mushroom candle holder and light it when it gets dark.

Wishing you all a cozy autumn!
