Our little monsters love the annual Waldorf celebrations. November 11th marks St. Martin’s Day and our youngest monsters then go with their lanterns singing —in the dark!!— past the (selected) houses. Selected because not everyone celebrates St. Martin’s Day. Then the kids receive sweets and tangerines, and they absolutely love it!
We make new lanterns for this celebration almost every year. This year, the monsters are folding stars themselves and sticking them onto the lanterns. In the upper grades, the children sing at school but don't go outside with lanterns. Though that doesn't mean a little lantern will look cozy in your room.

Here is a preference for a coloured star but also for an all yellow one ;))

How to make Waldorf Star Lanterns
Here is a preference for a coloured star but also for an all yellow one ;))
First we make the coloured star.
Cut the sheets into 4 equal pieces.
Lay the sheet flat before you.
Fold the sheet in half, upwards.
Unfold it and rotate it diagonally.
Fold the four corners to the center.
Make the folding lines neat and sharp.
Turn diagonally and fold the two bottom points at an angle.
Here's how the other side of your folding should look.
Fold more points in other colors; you need 8 of them.
Here you can see how to glue the star together.
This is the 'good' side of the star.
Stick the star onto an empty jar.
Not lit the lanterns still look cute!
The other little monster makes an all yellow lantern, to take outside. We’re recycling a plastic jar for this lantern—because it cannot break.
Cut the sheets into four again.
Fold the star points in the same way.
Stick the points with the folds together in fours.
Let the glue dry first, then stick the two parts of four points together, as shown in the photo
Make the lantern ready while the glue is drying again

Poke two holes, opposite each other.
Thread some string through it.
Glue the star onto the lantern.
Allow the glue to dry well again.
Stick a candle or a Led tea light in your lantern.
Now you just wait until it get's dark!
Wishing you a wonderful Saint martin's Day!
