A Summer Mobile

with sailboats

What do you need?
A large branche
Twigs and tree bark
A drill and small cutters 
A saw and a miter box 
Bison glue and hobby glue 
String 
Coloured fabric
You don't need much material to make a summer mobile. We get plenty of branches from the garden here. Sometimes branches also come home from school's Forest Days. The little monsters think it's a shame to leave beautiful fallen branches lying around. We also look for some fabric scraps, string, and lots of glue. Today we are making a mobile with sailboats.

Here is how you make the sailboats and a mobile
Saw pieces off the branches.
Drill holes into the wood.
See if the twigs are a fit.
The twigs fit the holes perfectly.
Then you glue them into the 'boats'.
We also have a piece of tree bark.
Stick in the masts with Bison glue.
Let the glue dry completely.
Glue a long string onto the masts.
Allow the glue to dry well.
Tie a string on the large branche.
Meanwhile you start working on the sails 
Pin the sails onto the fabric.
Cut out the sails oversized.
Cut 2 notches into the boats.
Glue the string through the notches..
in Do mind! This cutting must be done by an adult; a utility knife is razor-sharp!
Use a utility knife to make small notches in the front and back of each boat. 
Glue the string downward through the notch on the back of the boat
Glue the string  to the underside of the boat
Then through the second notch and backup, glue to the mast

Stick the sails onto the sailboats
Cut off excess fabric on the back.
Cut neatly along the strings on the back.
Glue loops on the back of the boats
Allow the glue to dry completely again.
Finally hang your sailboats to the large branch and find a fun spot for your mobile
