Sowing summer carrots is like child's play, if you know how of course. The carrots can be sown outside in early March.

Sow the carrots in a sunny spot.

Rake some sand in the soil, carrots love the loose soil.

In loose raked soil you make shallow lines, about +/- 1 cm is fine.

TIP! Press a slat in the soil to make nice straight lines.

In there you sprinkle the carrot seed thinly and cover it with sand or soil.

TIP! Sprinkling thinly goes best if you mix the seed with sand, the seed spreads better and you don't have to weed out the plants later on.

Make sure you water the carrots regularly.

TIP! Sow your carrots in between onions and harmful insects stay away.

Harvest the carrots in July/August

Carrot seeds from HEMA sadly aren't ecological.

Buzzy seeds we tried last year, they're not ecological but very tasty.

Biological seeds from Dille&Kamille we try out this year.

This biological seed is placed in a self-soluble band, perfect for kids!

Biological, Ecological or not?

In biological and ecological products no chemical fertilizers or pesticides are used. Usually they mention not sprayed.

Ecological products are even a little more respectful of the environment. One takes the place to sow with it's surroundings into consideration. Sometimes one even looks at the lunar phase that would have an impact on groundwater.

Any way both types of growth are better for the environment and as a result also for people.

Later this week we sow Cherry tomatoes!
