In America, it is a big celebration every year on July 4th! July 4th is Independence Day, and it is a national holiday. On this day, the Declaration of Independence of the United States from Great Britain was signed. Americans call this day "The Fourth." If you say that there, everyone knows exactly what you mean. :)))

For everyone in the States, "The Fourth" means a day off from work and school, with large parades, picnics, baseball games, and finally, a very big fireworks display in the evening. People decorate their homes with American flags. Everything revolves around being happy that you are a born American and that you live in the biggest, most beautiful, and best country in the world.

Here in the Netherlands, we do not understand this very well; we Dutch often have something to complain about, regarding the Netherlands, our little postage stamp on the globe. And honestly, we think America is very big and beautiful, but the best country in the world? not so much. Despite that, today we are raising a glass (of lemonade) to the United States, following an American recipe.

Here is how you make festive lemonade to celebrate 'The Fourth'

Wash the fruit and then drain it.

Remove the crowns of the strawberries.

Cut large strawberries into four parts.

Peel and slice the apple.

Cut out stars.

Pour the syrup in a jug.

Top the syrup with the water and stir it.

Optionally, add ice cubes to the lemonade.

Fill the glasses with lemonade and put in some matching straws.

Delicious and fun, Happy Fourth!
