Today we read a very special picture book by the (Born in Amsterdam) Italian author Leo lionni and it is named Frederick. When an artist creates a picture book it will be a very special book, which Frederick is! Leo Lionni was the first children's author who used collages as illustrations in his picture books. Frederick was not his first book but it is our most beloved.
You recognize a Leo lionni book immediately by it's simplicity. His books looked unusually clean and modern when they first came out but actually they still do. All his +/- 40 books are international best-sellers and even in Japan Frederick is mega-popular. Leo Lionni died in Italy in 1999 at the age of 89 years but his books are still most beloved world wide!
The story is also very special, so sweet and poetic. While all the mice are very busy to gather their winter stock, Frederick is quietly sitting outside. The mice think that's pretty easy but Frederick made a promise. Did he trick them? But then, when food gets scarce, Frederick manages as promised to help the mice through the hard winter. How? Read it in this marvelous book!
3 exceptional beautiful stars for Frederick, the snazzie mini-monsters love him and we too, listening or reading!
