Thea Beckman (1923-2004) was a Dutch author of historical children's and youth books and writing she did very well. Almost 30 of her books were published and they were all devoured by a large group of her young book fans. Our book is a fith print from 1984 and you can still buy this title new today.
Her book Kruistocht in spijkerbroek (Crusade in jeans) just might be her most famous book. It was translated into English and many other languages. The book received back in 1974 the Dutch Golden Stylus Book Award, And in 1976 it also won the prestigious French Prix De La Divulgation Historique. Besides all this the book was very succesfully made into a movie and in 2019 it even became the classic of the Dutch Geef een Boek Cadeau Campaign.
