We don’t have to travel far for our autumn vacation outing today; we’re heading to Hellevoetsluis. We heard about a unique park there called Historyland, and after spending some time looking at their website, Puk really wanted to go. So, that’s what we did today. We saw a great deal of history and also learned a lot about the Netherlands. A truly special parc!
What will we go see first?, the Pre-history says Puk

Standing next to a mammoth you feel really small!
There are a lot of very large skeletons to see.
Thankfully there is a lot of information as well!
The two kinds of mammoth differ from a forest elephant.
The reindeer are also impressive.
They have mega antlers!
Ever heard of the giant ground sloth?
Then we go outside again, searching for gold!
There is the goldmine, we can't wait!
The groundwater is supplied via long wooden troughs.
Then we must sift and look carefully, in search of gold dust.
You will be given a small tube to carry your gold in.
Yes, really! You get to take that gold home with you ;)))
Let’s head back inside again; it’s not very pleasantly warm today
We are going to take a look at the army display

There are lots of models, very nice!
Also fun displays.
You can see military uniforms ...
... to medals, from up close.
Then we head back outside to take a look at the large-scale military exhibits. There’s an actual tank, some cannons, and a helicopter—it’s not every day you get to see things like that up close!
There is much, much more to see here—too much to photograph in a single day; just take a look at the website. A great deal has remained under-represented, which you can clearly see there! But we have stayed a long time and now it's time to go home.

On the way out we want to show you that there’s also a little train.
In the fun souvenir shop Puk bought a big seashell for a small price.
We will definitely be coming back to Historyland Hellevoetsluis, because there are so many dinosaurs here (our favorites)! There are also pyramids and volcanoes, though we haven’t really had a chance to see those yet—and the same goes for the Viking ships. There’s a really fun water park, and it’s right by the beach (but sadly it was too cold today).
It was a super-duper fun day, we all agree about that!
