Today, on Earth Day, you will find this special book on Snazzie, and the title says it all: Something Grand & Extraordinary. The book is a bit older and was self-published by the Royal Diergaarde Blijdorp to mark the 150th anniversary of this special zoo. 

Blijdorp Zoo has certainly been through quite a lot in the 150 years in the Zoo's existance. A relocation and the Second World War were very hard and difficult times for both people and animals. The existence of a zoo has also changed unimaginably over time. It is very interesting to read how everything worked back then compared to now.

Especially in the role of protector of animals in areas where their survival is uncertain the Blijdorp Zoo of today has taken a flight. Blijdorp has come to play an increasingly important role in research into climate and the environment in the habitats of all kinds of animals and plants. We can highly recommend to read this special book to everyone.

The beautiful old photos of staff, plants, and the animals, as well as photos of restoration and renovations in the garden. The animal enclosures, in particular, have (fortunately!) already improved a great deal. Those photos are so nice to look at; the book is also a wonderful historical document. We would like to wholeheartedly recommend this book to everyone. Just read it; you surely won't regret it!
