Madelief bakes Christmas Trees

Shopping list for the dough
375g plain flour
225g butter (room temperature)
225g fine caster sugar
1 free-range egg (room temperature)
1 teaspoon vanilla essence
125g powdered sugar
1.5 tablespoon water
a few drops of lemon juice
food colouring, green
optional: sprinkles, glitter, smarties

It is almost Christmas, so we are baking Christmas cookies, all weekend. We start today with those of Madelief, tomorrow it will be Eefje's turn. Madelief makes Christmas trees from vanilla biscuits. She can do that all by herself because with het special Stars Cookie Cutters it is not difficult at all!
 
How to make Christmas trees

Sieve flour and salt into a bowl, put aside.

Mix butter and sugar creamy then beat in the egg.

Mix the vanilla in, then mix in  the flour in parts.

Knead the dough quickly by hand, wrap it in cling film.

Allow the dough to rest for 2 hours in the fridge then preheat the oven to 175°C

Take your dough out of the fridge and knead it quickly.

Roll out the dough to approximately 1.5 - 2 cm thickness.

Try to roll the dough evenly so it has the same thickness.

Using a cookie cutter cut out of the dough 9 stars in three sizes.

Place the biscuits on waxed paper on the baking tray.

Place the bakimg tray 30 mins. in the fridge.

Bake the biscuits in 10 - 12 mins. golden brown, allow to cool.

Meanwhile make the white glaze

Sieve the icing sugar then add the water en the lemon drops and stir it into a glossy thick, still liquid glaze.

Turn the stars around to make them look like a Christmas tree.

Stir drops of green into the glaze then pour it over the Christmas tree.

From the remaining dough you can bake cute little Christmas biscuits (see above).
