Another wonderful book in the series "Dive into the Time of" is Laat me gaan! (Let Me Go!) written by Dutch author Ruben Prins. The atmospheric illustrations in the book were made by Juliette De WitThe little monsters are currently reading it to us, and we're transported back to 1900. It's an unimaginable time for today's children.

In short this is the story: Twelve-year-old Pier lives in the countryside, and when there's no money for his sick sisters' medicine, he goes to work. Forced child labor existed, working 6 days a week, 12 hours a day in a factory, was commonplace back then.

Butmeanwhile the government was working on a new law: the compulsory education law. Until a child is twelve years old it had to attend school.... It is a sad, exciting story, can't wait to read how it ends. With tips for your presentation at the back!

3 bright stars for Laat me gaan! (Let met go!), from our young readers and their big listeners!
