Last weekend, we found beautiful shells on the beach again and a tiny (dead) starfish. We love shells and needle work, so that gave us inspiration to make a beach-themed bookmark. We are embroidering two beautiful shells and a little starfish onto it using wool felt.
Here is how to make the Beach bookmark
Pin the patterns onto the felt.
Cut them out, the bookmark twice.
The pink sea shell twice too.
Pin the sea shells onto the felt.
How to sew the seashells and Starfish on
Secure the blue shell all around with very small running stitches.
Sew the starfish with the same stitches, but through the middle.
Sew on the bottom of the pink shell also tiny stitches.
Sew the top on the shell with backstitches.
Do mind to tie off all threads firmly.
Split a sea green thread and thread the needle.
Tie a knot in the bottem of the thread.
How you decorate the shells
Sew backstitches in a curved line.
Top and bottom lines green, middle line blue.
That's the blue shell finished.
Sew vertical lines on top of the pink shell.
Paint the larger bead silver and let it dry.
Sew the small beads onto the starfish, 3 on each leg.
Sew the top and bottom of the bookmark together.
Finally, sew the pearl into the pink shell with a few stitches.
We're fetching a lovely book: Mouse by the Sea, by Alice Melvin.
The little monsters ask: "Does Mouse also like searching for shells?". What do you think? Take a look over here!
Happy Summer!
