What do you need?
a large plant pot or
a small cardboard box
A selection of
small sticks & twigs
dried leaves
hollow bamboo canes
dried grasses
old tree bark
dried moss
dry pine needles
small plant pot, in shards
secateurs and a small saw
Autumn is almost here and in the animal world it is time to think about winter. Because during this time a lot of work is done, by insects for example. These animals go and collect food, look for a nice spot or prepare their burrows underground.
They are so busy that we thought: why not surprise them for Animal Day with something nice, an Insect Hotel for example? Good idea, is what the little monsters say!
Cut branches to size of the pot.
Saw the bamboo canes to size.
Cut off withered conifer leaves.
Break a flowerpot into shards.
That was the preparation. We've been already outside with a large bag to gather dry grass and other stuff we need for the hotel
Now you are ready to furnish the hotel
Cut the grass a little smaller.
The grass goes on the bottom of the pot.
Stick in branches, twigs and leaves.
Place the hollow bamboo sticks upright in the pot, insects love those sticks!
Insert pot shards, tree bark and pine cones in between.
If necessary, stuff with some extra grass to keep everything in place.
We put the Hotel in a sheltered spot in the garden and now we just have to wait for the hotel guests to arrive!
