150g medium egg noodles
dash of toasted sesame oil
300g skinless chicken breast fillets, strips
2 tablespoons light soy sauce
1 tsp five-spice powder
1 teaspoon chilli sauce (optional)
1 tablespoon cornflour
1 tablespoon groundnut oil
1 red pepper, in thin strips
150g bean sprouts
1 spring onion, in thin strips
freshly ground black pepper
Chicken Chow Mein is not really a Chinese New Year's dish. It's just a tasty and easy-to-make noodle dish from China, and everyone here loves it! For vegetarians you can make it without chicken but with spiced tofu strips or just extra veg, also delicious! The recipe is from Ching-He Huang a favorite chef of snazzie. We'll eat this dish happily every day of the year!!
How to make Easy Chicken Chow Mein
The preparations
Bring a large pan with water to the boil.
Turn off the heat and add the noodles to the pan.
Soak the noodles in the hot water for 4 minutes.
Drain the noodles in a colander and rinse with cold water.
Pour in a little splash of oil.
Coat the noodles in the oil.
Cover the noodles and set aside.
Marinate the chicken strips
Add the soy sauce to the chicken and mix it in.
Add the Five spices to the chicken strips as wellt.
Rub it in and dust the chicken lightly with cornflour.
Cover the chicken with cling film.
Place the chicken strips in the refrigerator and meanwhile cut the veg
Cut the spring onion into strips.
Cut the bell peppers into strips.
We add our leftovers at the same time ;))
The preparations are done, now you're ready to stir-fry
Heat the pan, add the oil and chicken.
Stir-fry the chicken 4 minutes.
Stir-fry the pepper al dente.
Stir-fry the onions also.
Stir everything together well.
Add the noodles to the pan.
Season the stir-fry with soy and pepper.
Allow the Chow Mein to heat up well.
Serve the Chow Mein immediately, with some soy sauce on the side.
