The little monsters found this book at the library, among the self-read books: Man on the Moon, about the first manned flight to the moon in 1969. It was an instant hit; they had to take this book home! Allthough the little monsters love reading, reading independently isn't really their hobby yet, but they do need the practice. With a book like this, they'll immediately get more excited to begin ;))
This book is part of the self-learning series "lezen over lang geleden" (Reading About Long Ago) by Arend van Dam, with atmospheric space illustrations by Alex de Wolf. Books by these two creators are always a hit, both the stories from long ago and the fantastic illustrations.
Reading about how the astronauts were launched to the moon and what they experienced along the way (what about the view or the weightlessness on board?). This was all very exciting for those men. Then came the moon landing and leaving the rocket for the first time. Hopping over the moon instead of walking, and then planting the flag.
Whenthe mission was over and they headed back, they were hoping for a safe return! it is a thrilling story we all know, but there is something special at the end of the book. Something we didn't know, but Arend van Dam does. But we cannot reveal what it is of course, you should read the book!
3+ brilliant stars for Man op de Maan (Man on the Moon), from our little out-loud readers and their big listeners!
