For Lunar New Year, we're reading a special picture book. It's an old story about an ethnic minority that has lived in China for centuries, and their language is Hmong. Arnold Lobel has given the story his own twist and created the beautiful, humorous illustrations.
The book is only available as a paperback and, unfortunately, hasn't been translated into Dutch. However, that won't be a problem, as even four-year-olds in the Netherlands can speak a decent amount of English, thanks to the internet. :)))
The story is very funny, and combined with the illustrations, you can just picture it. Ming Lo and his wife live next to a beautiful, high mountain. But that's not so great, because chunks of rock regularly fall down. The chunks of rock make holes in their roof. The vegetable garden doesn't get any sun, so nothing will grow there. Mrs Ming wants Ming Lo to move the mountain away from their house.
But how can such a little man move a gigantic mountain? Ming Lo goes to their wise village elder to ask if he has any good advice. IWe are curious to find out! Our little monsters love the story and the solution to the problem! A truly wonderful addition to our bookshelf.
