Nuts

Our book of today is called Nuts and nothing is more appropriate for this book than the subtitle, which is in the front: Sometimes things come your way on their own. When we were browsing in our favorite bookstore, looking for a new reading book, this brilliant picture book came our way by itself!

We took it quickly home and what do you think? Everyone here loves the book! An inspiring story (short but much to the point) that, together with the wonderful illustrations, was created entirely by Paula Gerritsen We have told the story to our mini-monsters already many times now and always to the great satisfaction of the little listeners.

We attach a little wise lesson to the story. Mouse first has to walk a very long way to get to the nut tree. Moreover, the weather is 'bad', strong wind and occasional rain.  And if there are no nuts to be found on the tree, of course she is disappointed, she could have eaten these delicious nuts all winter long. But was the journey to the nut tree a wasted trip?

No it's not, just look at Mouse's happy snout.  It's nice to blow the cobwebs out in the storm, snuggled up in your warm coat. Mouse really likes it outside! If there are no nuts, she is sad for a little while, a lot of effort and no reward. But when she gets home, there is a big surprise for her and she has made a wonderful trip in the storm. That's win-win, right? A wonderful book!
