Artist/children's book maker Oliver Jeffers has taken a new path with his picture book Meanwhile on Earth. He explains to his two quarreling children in the backseat how small the earth is and how a conflict has never been resolved by fighting.
While you read, you give a little history lesson at the same time because the car flies into space and based on the distances they cover and the time that it takes, the monsters see how it was like on Earth at that time. A fantastic book, literally and figuratively!
When you travel back in time, the first thing you see is the world now, US, with our cell phones are impatient people who all disagree with each other. A little further back, about 80 years, the Second World War was in full swing, with bombs and other violence. Before that there was the struggle of a few countries to grab as much land as possible, fighting to to oppress the original inhabitants of those countries.
Before that, the Vikings fought everyone and the Great Wall of China was built to keep everyone else out. Even further back, in ancient times people fought each other with chariots and metal weapons, before that it was still sticks and stones. We go back to 11,000 ago! Then the world's population (then about 6 million people) was much to busy with surviving to fight. This may be something to seriously think about...
3+ forever radiant shining stars for Meanwhile Back on Earth, from our little listeners and their readers!
