The second book in our English-language series is the Canadian picture book Sidewalk Flowers by JonArno Lawson. A wonderful book without words but at the same time so telling. This book has been published in Dutch at Karmijn Publishers, which is funny because the book has no words :D Hence the translation of the title to Blommetjes and the short content on the back in Dutch.
Sydney Smith is the book's illustrator. The drawings are beautiful, the girl's face and posture are so revealing. Just like her father's, on his phone and distracted, and the people she meets on the street. The more good deeds the girl does with her 'Sidewalk Flowers', the more colour appears in the book.
Beautiful, a book that shows that a child's little expressions of empathy make our world a better place to live in.
