Many years ago, Dutch author Lida Dijkstra wrote a truly special book about the young Prince William of Orange. It's a beautiful story—funny, exciting, and you'll want to read it to the end in one go. You'll then be so sad it's over! It's great, though, that once you have this book, you can reread it as often as you like. You can also find the book in the library, but then you have to make a special request.

The illustrations in this book are just as special as the story; you really see the young prince experiencing his weird adventures! Illustrator Roelof van der Schans did a brilliant job. With his imagination and mastery of image editing, it adds so much to the story. The monsters love it, and so do the readers.

It's the year 1757 when nine-year-old Willem, Prince of Orange, runs away from home. He runs away to his grandmother Marijke Meu, who lives in Leeuwarden, in her palace, het Princessehof. Willem is bored stiff there, but...that changes when an old woman casts a mirror spell. It's a magic spell that makes the animals—painted on the palace tiles—come to life every night at midnight!
